People First: Recognizing Outstanding CUMC Employees

October Employee of the Month

Tammy Johnston, Family Birth Center

Tammy Johnston, who works in the Family Birth Center, was honored as the October employee of the month.

Her nominator said, "Tammy's positive attitude is uplifting to all those around her. She is a fabulous lactation consultant and is constantly promoting the benefits. She takes time with the Residents to share this passion and knowledge. She represents CUMC in the community at a variety of lactation/breastfeeding committees. She has done seminars and educational events here. She responds at all hours of the night/day to help staff and patients with breastfeeding needs. She follows-up with patients after they have gone home to see if they have any needs or questions. She is genuine and caring when making these calls. In addition to all this she helps out wherever and whenever she is needed with other duties."

November Employee of the Month

Lisa Paulsen, Surgery

Lisa Paulsen is a team supervisor in the OR for the general, bariatrics, GYN, trauma and robotics. Paulsen supervises and provides leadership, mentoring and support to her team of 15 RN's and tech's every day. Her nominator said, "Lisa is calm, cool and collected. She can handle every situation from the most critical case to the most irate physician with professionalism and respect."

Paulsen works hand-in-hand with her team of RN's, surgical tech's, anesthesia and surgeons. She makes herself available to help them no matter what the situation is. "On several occasions Paulsen has come in on a day off and also has stayed well into the night to help her staff when she knew that with the case load ahead of them, they may struggle. On many occasions she has put her own work and personal needs aside to help make her staffs day, the surgeons day and of course the patients day just a little bit better," they added.

Paulsen is always looking for a new challenge. In January when the hospital purchased a new da Vinci Si robot, Lisa agreed to take on the robotics program as program coordinator in additional to her other duties without hesitation. She is always willing to learn and loves the newest technology for improved patient outcomes. Paulsen her personal time learning about the new robot, even going to Bergan after a day at work to observe cases and learn best practice techniques for set up. She has attended several health fairs, the farmers market, weekend conferences and has made several clinic visits with the PRM's to speak to physician and staff about our robotic program.

"Lisa is a great leader and person, full of energy, compassion and spunk. Daily she displays her passion for nursing and the patients she serves. We are so very lucky to have her as part of our Creighton family," they added.
