Patient Focus: Cafeteria
Renovation to Include Subway, New Menu Options and More!
Creighton University Medical
Center will embark on another renovation project in 2012 to improve
patient and visitor satisfaction. However this time the focus will be on one of
the main common areas used by patients and visitors- the cafeteria.
Phase One
The first phase of the remodel will include converting the space
previously occupied by Jazzman's to Subway (see artist rendering depicting what
the new restaurant will look like). Construction will begin in January and will
be completed sometime around March. Subway will offer another healthy and fast
option for employees from 7 a.m. - 2 a.m. Their menu will include Subway
favorites from breakfast to dinner.
During this timeframe
the Becic Dining Room will also be remodeled to include new floor and wall
coverings.
Phase Two
After Subway and the Becic dining room are completed the second
phase of the remodel project will begin bringing new options to the cafeteria
and dining room. The cafeteria and dining room will be closed during
construction. Subway will be open and select menu items from the cafeteria will
still be available in dining rooms A, B and C.
"The renovation
will include new stations, look and improved traffic flow to make it more of an
experience," said Cary Glasgow, Director of Food and Nutrition Services.
Old favorites and
new additions will be added including expanded Simply to Go options and an
upgraded coffee station. Two new restaurant style options will be added
including Salsa Rico which will offer Mexican fair and World Cuisine which will
offer a variety of ethnic options from around the world. Daily specials and
made to order menu items will still be offered at the Grill and an expanded
Salad Bar will be the centerpiece of the remodel (see artists rendering).
The remodeled dining room will include aesthetic updates
throughout with added seating and a variety of seating options including
booths, stools and even an internet café (see artists rendering).
"We don't want
you to realize you are in a hospital," Glasgow
said.
It's not just the
aesthetics that are changing, during this time Sodexo
staff will take part in the Innovations Program learning a new menu from top Sodexo chefs in the Omaha
area.
Vending machines
will still be available before and after construction by the cafeteria, in the
surgery waiting room and in the east lobby on third floor.
